Sakakawea Area Spill Response (SASR)

The Sakakawea Area Spill Response (SASR) group is dedicated to oil spill response preparedness and environmental stewardship in Eastern Montana and Western North Dakota, including Lake Sakakawea. SASR is a cooperative organization consisting of area petroleum industry operators working together to ensure response resources are available and strategically located for rapid deployment. Our collaborative efforts among industry partners focus on response preparedness to minimize environmental impacts from petroleum related incidents.

Key Audiences

Our key audiences include Sakakawea Area Spill Response (SARS) members, as well as other petroleum industry professionals, operators, natural resource trustees, and community members within the Bakken area. These stakeholders are integral to our mission of maintaining spill response preparedness and environmental stewardship.

Purpose/Goals

The primary purpose of the Sakakawea Area Spill Response (SARS) group is to provide response resources to protect waterways and mitigate impacts from petroleum related incidents. Our goals are to:

  1. Create a robust inventory of oil spill response equipment.
  2. Facilitate coordination and communication among industry partners.
  3. Conduct regular training and exercises to ensure preparedness.
  4. Promote best practices in spill response and environmental stewardship.
